The Catholic Diocese of Kontagora is located in the North-West geo-political zone of Nigeria. It occupies about 79,000sq km and bordering Kebbi, Niger and Zamfara States And Benin Republic with about 1.6 million people. The population is mostly agrarian. Its ethnic composition includes; Kambari, Lelna, Dukawa, Kamuku, Gungawa, Bassawa, Hausawa and Fulani among others.

The justice and peace committee is a Non-Governmental Organization (N.G.O.) it is also an international Catholic Church Organization, under church and society, with branches in all the states and Dioceses in Nigeria. Justice and Peace committee Kontagora Diocese exists since 1997 to promote Justice, Respect for Human Rights, Development (human) and Peace.

In our territory, as is typical of most areas in Nigeria, Human Rights record is abysmal. The less privileged and the not so literate have their fundamental Human Rights abused with impunity. There are recurring incidences of violation of rights to life, to freedom of thought, conscience and Religion, arbitrary detention, destruction of property, societal violence and other serious human rights problems which demean the value of life.
